Improving the Flux-Weakening Capability of Interior Permanent Magnet Machines by Number of Turns Changing Methodology

In this paper, an interior permanent magnet (IPM) machine having two sets of windings with different number turns is developed to improve the limited flux-weakening (FW) capability and efficiency, simultaneously. The flux-adjustable range appears be somewhat because maximum inverter voltage high magnetic saturation, which degrades FW capability. To address its restricted capability, a unique winding-switching concept introduced, in auxiliary coils lower alternately function as secondary armature winding, resulting flux-linkage reduction within same phase. Winding topologies, design considerations, principle, computations have all been addressed. validate feasibility proposed enhancement strategy, co-simulation procedure based on 2D finite element method (FEM) MatLab codes used determine steady-state performance characteristics IPM machines various winding topologies. All conventional compared quantitatively. Furthermore, ensure accuracy analytical numerical calculations provided study, predicted efficiency map original Toyota Prius 2010 validated using measurements provided.
